On The Move - Kristina Guerrero

On The Move - Rocsi

El Barrio: Los A ngeles
Trabajo: Journalist

From a childhood gathering buckets of cherries on a farm at 4am to a career of gathering stories for E! News every morning, Kristina Guerrero personifies the cliché that hard work and determination can get you whatever you want out of life. But as the first Latina host on E! her new position holds more significance than just personal acclaim.

“It’s amazing to be able to represent my culture on a mainstream network,” she says. “It’s such an honor for me but a huge responsibility too. But I’m wiling to take it on.”

She says fellow Mexican George Lopez was her favorite interview since she’s been at E!. She randomly saw Lopez outside of her house one morning and a week later interviewed him for the ALMA awards. The two are neighbors.

Kristina grew up in a small farm town in Washington State where lots of Mexican migrant workers pick cherries and work in asparagus fields. But with some foresight and a firm grip on goals she never let her surroundings dictate her future. Though she helped out working in the fields her mother stressed education while Kristina dreamt about interviewing Hollywood’s biggest stars on red carpets.

Despite some skepticism from her family, she left Washington for Hollywood at age 18. She says that her mom and four siblings thought she was a little crazy but she didn’t have any delusions of overnight stardom. She enrolled in the University of Southern California to study journalism, aspiring for a career in broadcast.

She started as an intern at LA’s Fox KTTV and after soldiering through the collegiate servitude got her first big break landing a co-host spot on a talk show The Rub. After The Rub she left LA to host her own CBS morning talk show in San Antonio, Great Day S.A.

Now she’s back in LA enjoying her job with E!.

“It’s been an amazing journey for me,” she says, “because I really came from nothing. Sometimes I still amaze myself and I’m like holy shit how did I get here? I told everyone I was gonna do it and I actually did it.”
